PADI Scuba Diving Courses P J Scuba (Mermaid's CDC) offers a full range of PADI and other organization scuba divers courses from beginner (open water course) to professional level (internships and dive training traineeships). All of the dive courses are made to be fun whilst informative and rewarding. Mermaids have classes beginning of most of the programs daily - any date that you wish to begin a program - we can assist with the training. We just need a 24 hour notice period. Don't get taken by the sharks...

I personally have not come across this much info on the courses on the web and thought that it was about time it was available. ** PADI Discover Scuba Diving ** This DSD (Discover Scuba Diving) experience is designed for those who want to try diving prior to taking a course or for those who don't have the time to do a course but still wish to experience the underwater world, the beautiful corals, fish and islands - and believe me you'll want to! The day program is conducted over one day, the first dive starts in shallow ocean water where you will learn some basic scuba skills to enhance your enjoyment before going on a supervised dive with a professional PADI instructor. After lunch you'll go off for a pleasure dive, no skills to learn this time, and get to share the sea with such creatures as turtles, eels, nocturnal harmless sharks and of course thousands of fish. The maximum depth for this course is 12 metres. With advanced notice, we can take you to a swimming pool on the day prior to your dives and learn the skills and therefore make for a more relaxing day for your ocean dives.
The PADI Scuba Diver course is designed for those who do not have four days to spare for an Open Water Diver course, but who still wish to get dive certified. Upon completion of this course you can dive to 12 meters under the supervision of a PADI professional (DM or instructor). The SD (Scuba Diver) course is conducted over two days, and includes some classroom and swimming pool instruction prior to your two dives in open water. All dives are done under direct supervision of a PADI instructor. The PADI Scuba Diver course is excellent for the occasional 'holiday diver' and can be upgraded to the full PADI open water course at any PADI dive center at a later date making it very flexible and a great intro to diving. ** PADI Open Water Diver course ** "The way that the world learns to dive!" The Open Water course is the world's most popular entry level dive course. The course lasts for four days, although we at P J Scuba realize that most people visiting Pattaya are on holiday and so we can schedule the course into two blocks with a break between for some holiday fun ! The course can actually be completed in 3 days if you are pushed for time as the preliminary skills can also be performed in the ocean. Please note that we can begin training on any day that is convenient to the diver. We have many well trained instructors that can provide dive training at short notice - please 24 hours notice. The first two days are split between the classroom and the swimming pool where you will do five dives learning all of the skills that will enable you on completion of the course to be able to dive with a buddy but not necessarily under the supervision of a PADI professional. National Geographic PADI Open Water Diver Program
** Advanced Open Water Diver course ** Now we're getting serious! I know people who are 'Open Water Divers' with in excess of 200 dives under their belts and they are happy staying at that level. However the A-O-W Course opens up new avenues and allows to dive more dive sites globally. This course consists of 5 Dives - 2 Core (Deep Dive & Navigation Dive) and 3 elective dives where you get the chance to choose from a whole host of specialty dives from Night dives to drift dives and wreck dives to underwater photography dives. The main advantage to the Advanced course is that it gives you 5 more dives with an instructor to hone underwater abilities and also gives you experience of diving at depth. You will do a deep dive to 30 metres affording you more confidence for future trips. It is heard of sometimes that if a dive site is deeper than 20 meters then unless you hold the Advanced Open Water international license the tour operator will not allow you to perform the dive. ** PADI MFA (Medical First Aid) (EFR) course ** Here's a handy one. Not only applicable to diving situations. Anyone can take this course - diver or not. The MFA / EFR course deals with administering first aid to a patient of an accident, whether on dry land or in water. The course is a prerequisite for the Rescue Diver Course. Course content teaches - Primary Assessment of the patient, rescue breathing (mouth to mouth), one rescuer CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation - or pounding on the chest!), choking management, control of bleeding, shock management, primary circle of care and secondary assessment to name just a few topics. A very fun course with a serious and informative content!
** PADI Rescue Diver course ** Now we'll get you working! This is when the blinkers come off. Generally you'll find that a diver will take care of himself and his buddy before, during and after a dive. The Rescue Diver Course puts you in the mind set to take on-board everything that is going on around you, to prevent problems as well as to deal with them in the unlikely event that they should arise. The course teaches you 10 skills of self rescue and rescue of another diver. After the 10 skills have been mastered over a period then there are two realistic scenarios in which you will have to take charge of the rescue. Basically preparation is the key to the course. Anything can happen at any time! One minute you're eating lunch the next your searching for a missing diver, egressing to the surface with the diver. It doesn't end at the surface. You'll need to get back to the boat whilst removing equipment (for boat access) and issuing rescue breaths. When you have the diver on the boat it's your responsibility to continue with CPR (if needed), secondary assessment and control the whole scene. BELIEVE ME - this is a seriously FUN course. You'll learn a lot. Most divers that have achieved this level or higher will tell you that the PADI Rescue Diver Course was the most enjoyable and rewarding of them all - apart from the first underwater experience that is!
